Coin throwing Drogba in trouble

by editor, 15th Nov 08

drogba.jpg

There is nothing like being hit by a coin thrown by a fan when you are celebrating a goal. Chelsea’s Didier Drogba could not take it and threw it back after he had shown the Burnley fans the middle finger in a Carling cup game they lost. Now the hot tempered player is up for a possible ban from the English FA. Its true Drogba puts the game into disrepute but for the hooligans who take pride in hitting players, there is need to tame them. BBC SPORTS has more. (Photo by Timesonline)

zim-army.jpg

Pupils in Zimbabwe have had to sit their exam papers under strict supervision from army men after headmasters failed to get teachers and resorted to the clan chiefs, youth and army personnel. Too bad for the long necked students who did not read their books. AllAfrica has more

There is no better time to be an animal in Tanzania than now. After withstanding unending abuse and no proper care from their owners, every animal in Tanzania is now free as the National Assembly has passed the Animal Welfare Act, 2008 Bill that safeguards the rights and welfare of animals, especially domestic ones. Talk of animal empowerment, hmm! the world is changing. Arusha Times has more on this.

She was the “mother of our struggle” and “South Africa’s first lady of song” Mr Mandela said. Makeba became a symbol of the fight against apartheid and spent three decades abroad after South Africa’s government revoked her passport. Mr Mandela said her haunting melodies gave voice to the pain of exile. “She… richly deserved the title of Mama Afrika,” BBC Africa has more.

Tanzanian students demand loans

by staff writer, 9th Nov 08

students-strike.jpg

Tanzania is the only East African country that gives out loans to University students to help them meet their food and accommodation needs. The government introduced student loans through direct lending from the ministry of higher education. However a team of students from Dar es Salaam University College of Education protested this week saying the Government is capable of giving more than the fraction they are giving out. University students are the most untrustworthy group to give loans, especially when you consider women and beer! IPP MEDIA has more on this
